Sprite S2160 size 18 hook. Griffiths 8/0 black thread, Body of thread creating two balls, ideally rear one larger than front one. A single herl of black ostrich herl is wrapped a couple of times in the centre. Both balls are varnished. Comment – this is another fly pattern of Ed Koch, featured in his book, ‘Fishing the Midge’. His dressing uses a small black hen hackle but I prefer using Ostrich herl. I have fished this pattern many times and had much success with English coarse fish, although I reckon it will do well with trout or grayling too.
