Henthorn Purple (variant).

Hends BL599 size 16 hook. Uni-thread 8/0 purple. Body of thread with thorax of Hends Spectra dark green dubbing (239). Mallard duck hackle from the wing tied sparsely. Comment – the original dressing by Harold Howorth used a few turns of natural peacock herl. His pattern was tested on the Henthorn stretch of the River Ribble, near Clitheroe in the 1950/60s. He was noted for adding a herl thorax to his spider patterns to give the fly more ‘kick’.
