Sprite S1800 4xl size 8 streamer hook. Uni-thread 6/0 black. Grizzle hackle fibres for tail. Body of 3 natural peacock herls ribbed with silver wire. Thorax of one strand of a black ostrich herl ribbed. Hen grizzle cape hackle. Comment – this tying is based on the Spade Fly, which was developed by Bob Arnold of Seattle, WA for low water steelhead fishing in the late 1960’s. The original version had a deer hair tail as he wanted a fly with some buoyancy, which together with the peacock and soft hen hackle would also give attraction and movement. I like the simplicity of this fly which gives me ideas of future patterns based around on the three main materials, as well as altering hook style and size.
