Sprite S1800 4xl size 8 streamer hook. Uni-thread 6/0 black. Few grizzle hackle fibres for tail. Body of Vicuña black dubbing from their Dry fly range, which is ribbed with silver wire. Few cock pheasant tail fibres for the wing. Hen grizzle throat hackle. Head varnished with Veniards black cellire. Comment – an old fly developed in the 1950’s by Dick Prankard of Mt. Vernon, Washington and named after his friend Dr. Donald Spratley who disturbed him when he was creating it. A good lake pattern, which is successful on the Canadian Lakes. Like many of these old patterns it can be tied with black, green, orange or red wool. My dressing should really have been tied with black wool, which is probably the only colour I do not have!
