    Cream Strymph

Sprite S1800 4xl size 8 hook. Textreme 6/0 Standard cream thread. Cream ostrich herl for the tail. Body of Wapsi SLF imitation seal fur dubbed to create the body. Indian hen speckled silver badger saddle cape hackle. Comment – the Strymph was created by Harry Murray of Virginia, USA to catch smallmouth bass. It was designed to be fished as a nymph or streamer. The original body fur used was cream rabbit fur but I prefer the SLF, which I think adds a bit of sparkle. I am hoping the UK perch are attracted to it.

    Persuader

Sprite S1800 size 10 streamer hook. Uni-thread 8/0 orange. Body of 4/5 white Ostrich herls wrapped and ribbed with silver wire. Cock pheasant tail feather fibres for wing case. Hends Spectra hot fluo orange dubbing (294) for the thorax. Comment – this fly was created by John Goddard. Apparently he wanted a nondescript stillwater pattern that had to be fairly large to attract trout from a distance. It can be fished slow and deep or faster near the surface. It has been a very successful pattern. (NB – the original dressing had an orange seals fur body – I couldn’t resist using Spectra dubbing).

Kamasan B120 size 12 hook. Uni-thread 6/0 black.. Body wrapped with Semperfli Green Peacock Synthetic herl and ribbed with fine dark copper wire for protection. Indian black natural hen cape hackle tied sparsely. Comment – it will be interesting to see how this dressing compares with the original. The original has been catching fish since the early 1800s, although Tom Ivens really ‘put it on the map’ when he started using and writing about it, circa. 1950.
