Sprite S1800 size 8 streamer hook. Uni-thread 6/0 dark brown. Body of a selection of Jamieson’s of Shetland Spindrift wools ( burnt umber, yellow ochre, leprechaun, tan and green, birch )twisted and wound tightly together to form the body. The underside of the body is ‘roughed up’. The hook is weighted with lead wire.

Beaded Hare Sub Bug.
Hends BL554 size 14 hook. Semperfli 12/0 black classic waxed thread. 2.5mm black tungsten bead. Few fibres from tail of a hen pheasant for tail. Body of Vicuña UV Rainbow Hare’s Sub dubbing ribbed with copper wire. Indian hen speckled silver badger saddle hackle sparsely tied.

Simple Black Beetle.
Hends BL599 size 14 hook. Semperfli 12/0 black classic waxed thread. A strip of pearl corrugated flash strand tied in at tail end. Body of couple of strands DMC black embroidery thread ( ideally should be black floss silk thread). The body is covered with Veniards head cement then the pearl tinsel is brought forward and tied in at head. Indian hen black cape hackle. Comment – the photos do not show the true ‘flash’ but I am sure it will interest the odd fish or two.

Eric’s Beetle.
Kamasan B175 size 12 hook. Uni-thread 8/0 yellow. Body formed with two strands of peacock herl, dyed magenta to give a bronze effect, wrapped over a strand of yellow wool but leaving some wool showing at the tail. Indian hen saddle black hackle – two turns. This pattern was created in 1940 by Eric Horsfall-Turner, who fished this pattern in the upper reaches of the river Severn. It can be used wet or dry.

Soldier Beetle.
Kamasan B175 size 12 hook. Uni-thread 8/0 orange .Body of UNI-Floss burnt orange wrapped over thread. Wing case of several fibres from the natural tail feather of a cock pheasant ideally cut and tied so the tail end of the wing case has a black marking ( alternatively mark with black marker pen). Indian red game hen cape hackle. Comment – the soldier beetle pattern can be useful on the Welsh Lakes when the soldier beetles are being blown onto the water. This dressing is based on a tying by Taff Price.

Beaded Teal & Stickle Dub Nymph.
Kamasan B420 size 14 hook. Uni-thread 8/0 grey. 2.5mm plain tungsten bead. Short tag of Krystal Flash pearl tinsel. Body of Veniards natural Stickle dub followed by thorax of dark natural Stickle dub. Sparsely tied hackle from a Teal duck skin ( very soft).

Beaded Shetland Spindrift Bug.
FullingMill FM1710 size 14 hook. Uni-thread 8/0 rusty brown. 2.5mm copper tungsten bead. Body of thread wrapped very tightly with one strand each of Jamieson’s Shetland Spindrift Autumn (998) & Burnt Umber (1190) wool then ribbed with hot orange wire. Thread collar. It is then brushed well with Velcro.

Sprite S2499 size 16 hook. Danville’s Flymaster 6/0 fluo shell pink thread. 2mm metallic pink tungsten bead. Body of Lathkill’s vinyl rib nymph fluo pink wrapped over thread. Thorax of Hends Spectra dark pink peacock dubbing (29)

Simple Beaded Nymph.
Hends BL554 size 16 hook. Danville’s Flymaster 6/0 white thread for body and black thread for thorax and whip finish. 2.5mm black tungsten bead. Body of thread wrapped with UNI GloFloss white. Body then wrapped with Hends body glass half round micro transparent (01), which is covered with Sally Hansens ‘ Hard as Nails’ varnish. Thorax of Troutline Dark Thorax Nymph Dubbing (This has a touch of sparkle). Thorax brushed.
